Kozhikode: Launching the Kerala unit of Welfare Party of India (WPI) on Wednesday, National General Secretary of the party, Dr. SQR Ilyas declared that WPI will not indulge in vote bank politics exploiting religion and caste. He also said criminals, corrupt and communal elements will have no place in the Welfare Party.
“The Party aims at establishing a Welfare State that will provide food, shelter and education to all. The assets of the Party leaders and members can be verified by any at any time,” Dr. Ilyas emphasised.

Delivering his presidential address, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, national vice-president of the Party, said that the WPI aims at the formation of a new exploit free India that guarantees equal opportunity and liberty to all. “Though the government comes out with some different figures, about 90% of the Indian population is poor. The objective of the Party of a welfare state can only be achieved within two or three decades not in two or three years. The Party has not been formed in view of any imminent election,” said Dr. Khan.
“The Welfare Party of India is committed to provide a new political culture to Kerala. The Welfare Party is not against any other party or front, but rather wants to correct them and march ahead co-operating them also. But there will be no compromise in values and principles of the Party,” said Dr. Kootil Mohammedali, the newly elected state president of WPI.

Fr. Abraham Joseph, national vice president handed over the Party flag to the newly elected state president. Lalitha Naik, former Karnataka minister for social welfare and Kannada language and national vice president of the Party earlier hoisted the flag.
National general secretary P C Hamza, Treasurer Dr. Abdussalam, national secretary Subramani, national women’s convenor Sheema Mohsin, Tamilnadu president S N Sikandar and others also spoke at the function.
Towards fund mobilisation for the Party, the delegates at the convention donated Rs 3, 99,600/ responding to the call made by Dr. Kootil Mohammedali.
